Mick Halsall: Plenty Of Commitment In Season Opener

11 August 2014

The Notts Youth Team started the season with a confident 1-1 draw against Doncaster Rovers, a side who had beaten them twice last season.

The Magpies took the lead in the 18th minute through a powerful run and finish across the keeper from striker Colby Bishop, but they were pegged back in the second half with a world-class volley from Rovers.

Notts had the chances to win it, but forward Elliot Brown and first-year midfielder Ben Browne hit the woodwork.

Head of Academy Coaching Mick Halsall told the Official Site: “I’m pleased overall. I’m still learning a lot about the boys in these early stages, but there were certain aspects that were good on the eye.

“There was lots of commitment and endeavor that we will need and maybe could have scored a few that would have been key. They scored a worldy and then it was a case of not losing.

“There’s lot to work on, but we threatened throughout and we will be working on a lot more things this week ahead of Burton. They’ve played two games already, so we will be looking to get information about them and keep working hard.

“We did well, but we all know there’s more to come.”
