McMillan Demands Improvements

24 March 2014

Notts County youth team were heavily defeated in their weekend fixture with Lincoln City.

A disappointing display led to the Imps inflicting a 6-2 defeat on the Magpies, who netted goals through Colby Bishop and Kieran Geldenhuys.

After the 5-0 thumping of Rotherham United the previous week, head of Academy coaching Andy McMillan had pin-pointed parts of the performance he was unhappy with and was disappointed to see them continue against Lincoln.

He explained: “After the Rotherham game we said things weren’t looking right, even though we won convincingly.

“At the end of the day, I should have looked at changing the team around but it’s a bit difficult when you’ve won 5-0 at home.

“I’ll take it on the chin and I’ll know that if I see something that isn’t right I’ll change it regardless for the benefit of the squad, rather than the 11.

“It was a disappointing performance and everything we did was sloppy and complacent.

“Once you take that kind of attitude into a game you’re going to get a good hiding, but to be fair to Lincoln they did it right and played to their strengths on a difficult pitch.”

Notts youth team face Scunthorpe United on Tuesday afternoon - another difficult test.

“I need to see a reaction from them, I’m not a shouter or a bawler but they know what’s expected from them,” continued McMillan.

“They feel disappointed and let down so we’ll make some changes but it’ll be a tough game.”
