Manager Can't Fault The Magpies

17 July 2013

Notts County will be in great shape for the season’s opener if they can continue to make forward strides, says first team manager Chris Kiwomya.

The Magpies stepped up their pre-season preparations with a difficult encounter against Turkish champions Galatasaray on Tuesday evening and came through with flying colours.

Enoch Showunmi’s deflected cross had given Notts a second-half lead over the Champions League outfit but late finishes from Burak Yilmaz and Wesley Sneijder saw the visitors clinch the victory.

Kiwomya was proud of his side’s performance, which was well received by the home fans, and hopes that they can keep sending out positive messages ahead of the League 1 curtain raiser – a trip to Sheffield United on 2 August.

“Galatasaray weren’t just passing it around, they had intensity to their game and they wanted to score goals,” he told the press.

“I think they had about eight or nine shots in the first 10 or 15 minutes, so you could see that they were trying.

“We competed well with them and in the end we got a goal, which was deserved because we turned them and got a bit of luck and you’ve got to play in their half sometimes.

“It was a hard game but I thought we did well, it’s hard to find fault with the lads and that’s what I’ve said to them.

“Overall I was very, very pleased and if we take that into the next two games and the game with Sheffield United we won’t be too far off.”
