There's still time to pre-order your copy of Inside The Magpies Nest!

22 May 2016

Order your copy of Inside The Magpies Nest by 31st May for a mention on the roll of honour in the book!

The new 200,000 word book going behind the scenes at Notts County for the past 50 years is to be published later this year.

Featuring extensive interviews with former players, managers and chairmen, 'Inside The Magpies Nest' charts five decades of Magpies history.

Written by lifelong Notts fan and Nottingham businessman Paul Mace, all profits from the publication are to be donated to the Notts County Former Players Association.

In-depth interviews have been conducted with a raft of Magpies legends. These include Don Masson, Lee Hughes, Tommy Johnson, Mark Draper, Brian Stubbs, Trevor Christie, Brian Kilcline, Les Bradd; former managers Neil Warnock, Howard Wilkinson and Sven Goran Eriksson and ex-chairmen Jack Dunnett and Derek Pavis.

Mace said: "The aim of the book is to take a trip down memory lane and record the stories, anecdotes and banter as recounted by the players, management and chairmen.

"The past 50 years has been a wonderfully rich and diverse period for the club including playing in all four divisions, a variety of appearances at Wembley and a host of the greatest-ever players ever to pull on the black and white striped shirt.

"For me, it is vital this is recorded in print for the first time as told by the men themselves who wrote all the headlines."

The opening chapter will be a 25,000 word tribute to Magpies legendary master manager Jimmy Sirrel.

There will also be a 20,000-word chapter on the Munto takeover in 2010, which attracted global interest in the Magpies.

Former Notts and Scottish international Masson said: "All the lads are really looking forward to reading it.  Notts County is a fantastic club and I and all the players are delighted that we are able to share with supporters many of the stories, anecdotes and banter which have happened over the years."

The book will be on sale from November 1 but fans can pre-order the publication with immediate effect.

It's taken over 12 months for Mace to conduct all the interviews to produce the publication.

"My first interview was with an incredibly sprightly 92-year-old Jack Dunnett in the Betjeman Arms at St Pancras Station a year ago.  It's a journey which took me to Holmfirth to meet Brian Kilcline, converse with Raddy Avramovic in Myanmar (Burma) where he is the national coach, and meet so many of the people who I would consider to be my heroes when growing up in Nottingham in the seventies.

"Everyone interviewed has been magnificent and on every occasion their affection, love and support for Notts County has shone through.  There are some truly wonderful stories to be told.  Some hilarious, some inspiring, some very sad but always insightful.  I am indebted to everyone for volunteering their time and hospitality."

Supporters can get their own name in a special roll of honour at the end of the book for free by pre-ordering before May 10.  Fans will be able to list their favourite Notts player and favourite Notts game as part of their entry.
