Hodge At The Double As Youths Extend Run

13 January 2014

An Elliot Hodge brace made it five league wins on the spin for Notts County youth team in a 2-1 triumph over Grimsby Town youth team.

Hodge opened the scoring with a spectacular finish, which saw him cut inside from the left before finding the net from 25 yards.

The midfielder then completed his double from the penalty spot to give the Magpies a two-goal lead.

Town struck back after the break but Notts held on to keep up their impressive run of victories.

Head of Academy coaching Andy McMillan said: “Everyone was surprised to see Elliot hit the net from that distance with his shooting – only joking, he’s played really well in the last few games and has made us tick.

“He gets on the ball from deep and likes to go forward as well and he put his penalty away as well.

“It’s going really well at the minute and I keep checking the league table now, because before I pretended there wasn’t one earlier in the season.

“We’re slowly climbing the table now and we’ve got some tough games coming up, but it’ll be a benchmark to see how well we’re progressing.

“The first half was decent and we played out really well from the back, through midfield and down the sides.

“In the second half they stopped us doing it and pressed us, which changes the game a little bit and meant we had to play in their half.

“As long as we’re trying to do the right things, it’ll keep the players progressing nicely.”
