Hampshire To Meadow Lane For Headway This Easter

30 March 2015

Three Notts fans will be cycling 200 miles for the Coventry fixture…

On Friday 3rd April 2015 Karl Murphy-Barnes, brother Steve Murphy and friend Justin Smith will be cycling from their home in Winchester, Hampshire to Meadow Lane, with the aim of getting to the ground in time for the Coventry game on Easter Monday.

The reason behind this challenge is to try and raise money for Headway - the brain injury association, whose headquarters are in Nottingham.

Karl explained to the Official Site: “On 12th February 2005, Karl and Steve's father (Bill Murphy) suffered a head injury as a result of a market stall being blown towards, and hitting, him during high winds in his homw town of Loughborough.

“He was taken to hospital, but after 6 weeks of fighting his injuries, he finally succumbed to them on 1st April 2005.  Now, 10 years on, we thought we'd try and raise money for Headway in memory of our Dad, the nicest man you could ever wish to meet.

“Bill was a life-long Notts fan, attending nearly every home game for 50 years.  His passion for the club was passed down to the the rest of his family, who are all huge Magpie fans.”

Karl admitted that the trio are daunted by the task ahead, but confident that they can pull together and raise plenty for charity in the process.

He added: “We are nervous, and slightly daunted by the challenge, as none of us have ever done anything like this before.

“However, we are all really looking forward to the challenge, as we know it's for a fantastic cause.

“We been training quite hard, although some weeks have been better than others! We do feel confident though, the three of us are all quite cheerful blokes, which could come in quite handy!

“It's going to take us three days, with the final leg of our journey finding us arriving at the club in time for kick off for three valuable points!”

Everyone at Meadow Lane would like to wish the trio all the best during their ride and fund-raising efforts.
