Mullins: Our Job Is To Stay In This Division

28 March 2015

Notts County Club Captain Hayden Mullins admitted that it had been a difficult week for the players but insisted that they are now focused on ending the season on a high.

Mullins spoke to the media on Friday to preview this weekend’s crucial Sky Bet League 1 game at home to Scunthorpe United and admitted that news of Shaun Derry and Greg Abbott’s departures at the start of the week had come as a blow to the squad, but that they had rallied as the weekend drew closer.

“The week in general, from Monday onwards, has been a bit of a down mood from the beginning of the week, obviously finding out that the Manager and Greg had been dismissed,” the 36-year-old explained.

“There’s a lot of people sad to see them go and we know how much this club meant to both of them and as players they always stressed to us the importance of winning games for the fans and doing things to get the club up into a position where it can challenge.

“We felt we did that in the first half of the season, but I think we’ve let ourselves down in the second half of the season and where we find ourselves now in the league and what position we’re in,” he added.

“We have to move on. We’re a football club and we have to try and win games now to stay in the division and we know what position we’re in and how precarious it is and our job is to stay in the league.

“We have to look forward as a team and as a squad and we have to look forward to the game on Saturday and think about getting the three points.”
