Halsall: Plenty To Work On

The Youth Team suffered their first loss of the season on Saturday, being defeated 3-0 by Hull City at Arnold.

The Youth Team suffered their first loss of the season on Saturday, being defeated 3-0 by Hull City at Arnold.

Head of Academy Coaching Mick Halsall believed the result was slightly harsh on his side who showed plenty of commitment throughout.

He was also left cursing the side's luck after hitting the post in the first half, before a defensive mistake gave City the opener.

He told the Official Site: "We were against a good footballing side and they got an early lead and they made it difficult for us to get back into it.

"We were unfortunate to hit the woodwork and if that goes in, then it could be a different story. We had other chances, but we didn't take them.

"We didn't have a real cutting edge at times and that's something we will be looking at and working on. We need to work on our partnerships and understanding and that will come.

"Reflecting back, maybe it was a little harsh scoreline. The lads kept at it and there was plenty of commitment and the never say die attitude that is pleasing to see.

"They are a credit to the club, they have a good spirit amongst them and didn't let their heads drop. We're not too down hearted.

"We will be going over the game with the guys and we're all learning."

Next up for the squad is an Youth Alliance Cup match against Burton Albion, a team they've already drawn 1-1 to earlier this month.
