Jones: I Had Some Really Good Times At Rochdale

19 December 2014

Notts County midfielder Gary Jones spoke to the media on Thursday to preview his return to former club Rochdale this weekend.

The 37-year-old enjoyed two spells at Spotland, both of which started as loan moves before being turned into permanent deals, making over 500 appearances in his time with the club and he’s very much looking forward to going back on Saturday.

He told the assembled journalists: “I spent a long time there, so it’ll be nice to go back there, it’ll be the first time that I have gone back, so I’m really looking forward to it.

“We had some barren spells in that time, but we got promoted, I think it was the first time in 40 odd years, so yeah I had some really good times and made some really good friends there so really looking forward to going back and seeing some familiar faces.”

Having worked under Rochdale boss Keith Hill during his time at Spotland, Jones had nothing but praise for his former gaffer, adding: “He’s a good manager, I’ve got a lot of respect for him. He’s done an unbelievable job and he’s still doing an unbelievable job now.

“He’s done a great job, he’s got a young team there who are really doing well, sixth in the league, third round of the FA Cup, so it’s going to be a very tough game for us and we’re really looking forward to it.”
