Jones: We've Got To Put The Ball In The Net

17 December 2014

Man of the match Gary Jones spoke to Magpie Player after the narrow Johnstone’s Paint Trophy defeat to Preston North End.

The Notts County midfielder echoed his Manager’s disappointment at the nature of the goal that ultimately won the game for Preston and also shared the fans’ frustrations after the defeat, saying: “I know how they feel, we’ve come so close and yet so far. To go out like that, it’s the scruffiest goal you’ve ever seen to be fair.

“We’ve had clear cut chances in the first half and second half, but we’ve got to ruthless in those situations, we’ve got to put the ball in the net and if you don’t do that you don’t win games,” he added.

“I think the first 10, 15 minutes we were a bit hesitant, maybe it was a bit of lack of confidence from Saturday, I’m not sure, but second half we grew into the game and we had a great chance, Stephen McLaughlin’s had a great chance, but as I said before if you don’t put the ball in the net you don’t go through.”
