Thompson: You Get Little Blips In The Season

19 December 2014

Notts County forward Garry Thompson spoke to the media on Thursday ahead of the Sky Bet League 1 game away to Rochdale this weekend.

Despite suffering defeats in their last two games, Thompson feels that the mood in the Notts camp is still good and that the players are looking forward to the chance to put things right this weekend.

He told the assembled journalists: “The lads are just buzzing for the next game. The good thing about a defeat is that a game comes thick and fast afterwards and nobody can wait for the game against Rochdale now, we’ve been fantastic away from home and I’d like to think we can carry that on.

“Hopefully it’ll make for a nice pressing game and hopefully, like I say, we can take our form away from home into the game.”

Asked why the team had enjoyed better results away from home than at Meadow Lane this season, Thompson added: “If I knew that I’d probably be the manager!

“We like to be expansive at home, we like to try and press forwards and maybe we leave ourselves a bit bare at the back.

“Obviously the Preston game we took a lot of self-belief out of that game because I thought we played really well, we’ve hit the crossbar, we’ve had one cleared off the line, we’ve had chances flash past, it’s probably just that final touch that we was missing.

“You’ve got to hold your hands up against Swindon, they were a good footballing team and obviously if you go down to ten men against a good footballing team you’re going to struggle, but I still thought we could take positives out of it.

“You get little blips in the season and hopefully we can roll our sleeves up and put in a good performance on Saturday and push ourselves into Christmas in a great position.”
