Garry Thompson: We Switched Off And It Cost Us Dearly

Goalscorer Garry Thompson was frustrated that his side couldn’t capitalise on what he felt was a good opportunity to get back into the play-off places against Peterborough United at Meadow Lane on Saturday.

Thompson drew Notts back level shortly before half time with a beautifully hit strike and had hoped that his side would press on after the break, but instead found themselves falling behind again midway through the second half, a blow that they never recover from.

The club’s top scorer this season said of his first half strike: “Obviously I’ve got to watch it back to see if it was that good, at the end of the day I just took a touch and put my foot through it and luckily for me it’s gone in the back of the net, but on the whole, as the Gaffer said, the game in general was disappointing.

“We thought they were there for the taking and we haven’t capitalised on our opportunity to push ourselves into the play-offs and it’s disappointing but we need to regroup and get ourselves ready for Oldham on Saturday.

“Coming in at half time, we’re back in the game, we think we’re going to go on and win it and yet again we’ve conceded a sloppy goal. We’ve switched off from a corner and it’s cost us dearly and try as we might we couldn’t get back into the game today and it’s disappointing.”
