Football in the Community launch new project for teens

25 May 2016

Portland Centre will now be hosting a brand new free sports and street dance project for 14 to 16 year olds. So get down to Portland, on Muskham Street, from 4:30pm until 6:00pm EVERY Friday.

Sessions will provide different sports activities every week alongside regular dance workshops in order to engage local teens with new, interesting activities. Sports will include football, basketball, badminton and table tennis amongst others.

The Meadows Partnership Trust have awarded Notts County FC Football in the Community [FITC] an Area Based Grant of just over £5,000 to start up the project within the Meadows. In addition to this £2,500 from the £5,000 donated by Neil and Ian Footitt, on behalf of the Moore group, will also be used to keep the project going for the first year.

As a centre of an active community in the Meadows, FITC sets out to make the Meadows a much more involved community, using the Portland Centre as a Community Hub for the area. They aim to get everyone in the Meadows more engaged in fun and social activities.

FITC has partnered with Next Door Dance [NDD] who will provide the dance workshops in street dance and contemporary dance geared towards both boys and girls.

NDD are a group of local female dancers who are best known for their most recent contemporary dance show, The Beautiful Game. The show combines football with dance which draws audiences from both as well as those who are looking for something different. They have expertise in many forms of dance, such as contemporary, street, commercial, jazz and many more. Therefore, NDD will offer a wide range of dance techniques that ensures there will be something for everyone.
