Elliott Whitehouse Deserved His Place At Notts County, Says Shaun Derry

6 August 2014

Manager Shaun Derry has paid tribute to new signing Elliott Whitehouse for the way that he has earned a place in the Notts County ranks.

Whitehouse’s one-year contract at Meadow Lane was finalised on Wednesday morning ahead of the Magpies’ Sky Bet League 1 opener against Preston North End at Deepdale this coming weekend.

The hard-working midfielder has been a part of the squad since the players returned for pre-season training at the end of June and has impressed massively during his trial.

Derry was delighted to reward Whitehouse and has set him the objective of becoming a regular in the County starting 11.

“It’s great for the lad, because he’s done fantastically well since coming in on trial,” said the gaffer.

“I’ve said to him that his challenge now is to force his way into the side.

“It’s tough because you’ve got to be better than what we’ve got and we’ve got some good players here at Notts.

“It’s difficult when you come into a strange place and the pressure’s on you because you haven’t got that comfort blanket of a one or two-year contract to fall back on.

“You’ve got to be right on top of your game every single day and I’ve got to say that he has been.”
