Development Side Cruise to Victory

12 January 2016

Notts County's Development side continued their unbeaten campaign with a comfortable victory over Doncaster Rovers.

The victory was never in doubt for Notts County after Kyle De Silva had opened the scoring, the victory keeping County top of the league table with eight games to go.

Jimmy Spencer had the first effort on target for the hosts, the striker only managing to head straight at Marko Marosi in the Doncaster net when unmarked.

County slowly took control of the game, taking the lead in the 13th minute. Good work from Lartey Sarpong saw the midfielder make space for himself, swinging in an inch perfect ball onto the penalty spot where Kyle De Silva was running in to meet it, sending his volley into the bottom right corner.

Genaro Snijders came close to finding the net from Murray's cross, the winger trying his luck with a flick at the near post which hit the side netting. Shortly afterwards, Spencer and Murray linked up well, Marosi coming off his line quickly to claim the ball just before Murray could convert.

The home side doubled their advantage just before the half hour mark. Rhys Sharpe played a diagonal ball to Snijders on the right of the area and his first time side-foot cross was headed home by Murray 10 yards out.

It should have been three straight after the restart. Murray started the move, finding Spencer in space on the edge of the box. The striker found Sharpe in the area with a reverse ball, the full back squaring to Murray who could only hit the underside of the crossbar when well placed. Snijders followed up the rebound, but couldn't beat Marosi with his header, Doncaster eventually clearing.

The last chance of the half went to Ronan Murray, but he couldn't further County's advantage. First the striker latched onto a through ball from Spencer, taking a neat touch past the defender, but his low strike was well saved by Marosi. Snijders was first to the follow up, laying the ball back for the striker but his shot was blocked 10 yards out.

Notts started the second half in the same dominant manner they had played the first. Good harrying from substitute Colby Bishop saw the ball make it's way through to Spencer who took the ball on before finishing with aplomb for the home side's third.

County netted their fourth just two minutes later. Spencer played a high ball over the defence to Snijders, the level winger cushioning the ball before striking the ball beyond the 'keeper at his near post.

Scott Loach's clean sheet was threatened for the first time just after the hour mark. Will Longbottom's shot from 20 yards was deflected, Jordan Ginley getting a faint touch past the 'keeper, only to see the ball rebound back off the post for Loach to pounce and claim.

Notts continued to dominate, but were in cruise control, controlling the game without creating any clear cut opportunities.

Substitute Montel Gibson almost added a fifth for the hosts with a minute left on the clock, ending a dangerous counter attack with a low drive across Marosi, which the 'keeper did well to palm away to safety.
