Derry: Players Respond To Large Crowd

17 October 2014

Notts County Manager Shaun Derry spoke to the media on Thursday, looking ahead to our Sky Bet League 1 game against Crawley Town at Meadow Lane on Saturday.

The Notts boss told the assembled journalists that he had been delighted by the players’ attitude this week, having not played a competitive fixture since the game against Gillingham.

Derry explained: “Obviously, the formbook would say that we’re a team who are heading in the right direction and when it came to the international break some would say that it came at the wrong time.

“But last time we had a break, we gave the lads some time off and all of them came back and produced a fantastic week’s training the following week and they’ve done just that again this week.”

Talking specifically about our opponents Crawley, the Notts Manager added: “I’ve watched them a few times. Obviously I watched the game against Peterborough last week and I think Peterborough were absolutely outstanding on the day, a stand out team who performed to their maximum on the day.

“I think if Peterborough perform like that they’ll beat anybody, so that was probably a one-off game for Crawley because prior to that I think they’d lost one in five games and are very hard to beat and we’re expecting nothing less on Saturday.”

With tickets in all home areas reduced this weekend, Derry called for as many Notts fans as possible to turn up for the game, praising the support that his side receive from the Meadow Lane crowd as they look to extend their eight-game unbeaten run on Saturday.

“It would be lovely if people come through the turnstiles because players respond to people coming and watching and delivering a sense of atmosphere,” he added. “That’s what we’ve always had at Meadow Lane, the fans are right behind us and I can only speak for myself but I’m sure the boys are enjoying playing in front of such a vocal support.”
