Derry: Need To Back Up Posh Point

16 September 2014

Manager Shaun Derry has called on his players to back up the impressive away point with more at Meadow Lane this week…

Derry was delighted with the draw at London Road on Saturday and now hopes his players can pick up further points against Leyton Orient and Oldham Athletic this week.

He also told the local media on Monday how fond he is of Orient boss Russell Slade, a man reported to be under pressure and a man he worked with early on in his playing career.

He told Magpie Player: "I've had a lot of dealings with Russell, not just here at Notts County but at Sheffield United as well.

"He took over when Adrian Heath lost his job and he worked in the youth team up there whilst I was a young player at Sheffield United, but my early memories are of him and Mick Walker being youth team coaches here when I was a YTS, so fond memories and you’re talking about a proper, proper good guy, a real good man Russell Slade.

"He had a big bearing on what this club was about back then, heart and soul and determination and morals, Russell brings them all to the table."

"He’ll understand the situation himself. What Russell will always say is that you’ve got to look at your own situation first and foremost and that’s obviously what we’re intending to do. That’s something that nobody here at Notts County has got control over.

"We’re coming into the game on the back of a really good point away at London Road and we want to back that up."
