Derry: I'm Just Absolutely Delighted With The Lads

Shaun Derry spoke to Magpie Player after Saturday's win at Coventry City...

Notts County Manager Shaun Derry was delighted that the players he brought into the team for Saturday’s 1-0 win at Coventry City gave him plenty to think about going into the next few games.

International call-ups and injuries denied Derry the services of several of his first team squad, but the Notts boss was happy to see those that stepped in give such a good account of themselves at the Ricoh Arena.

The Manager told Magpie Player: “We were missing nine players, but when you miss nine players it gives an opportunity for nine others to come in and I thought the boys who stepped in today, once again, have given me another problem because I thought they were outstanding.

“It just goes to show that you’ve got to be a team, on and off the field, and we are and I’m really proud of them, once again.”

Reflecting on how far his side has come since narrowly missing relegation last season, the Notts boss added: “I want us to be better than last season and for us to be better than last season we need to pick up away victories, we need to not concede goals and we’re doing that.

“I feel that now we’re a team that prides ourselves on not conceding goals. A few weeks ago we conceded a few in two or three games and that really hurt us, it burned me in particular.

“I’ve asked for a clean sheet today, before the game even kicked off, I’d have taken a nil-nil away from home because this is a very, very good football club and, like I say, I’m just absolutely delighted with the lads.”
