Derry: All The Lads Were Immense

5 October 2014

The Magpies made it seven games unbeaten in all competitions and back-to-back wins in the past week with a 1-0 home win over Gillingham...

Striker Shaun Harrad scored in the first half with a fine header, before goalkeeper Roy Carroll saved a penalty late in the game.

Manager Shaun Derry again praised his squad after they climbed to 8th in the league and sixth clean sheet of the campaign.

It meant and end to a fantastic week for the club, especially with the news that the management signed a new contract on Friday.

He told Magpie Player: "It's been a great week, it's difficult to get back-to-back wins at any level, and to get a home win is fantastic.

"I've got a lot of people to thank, all the lads were immense and we got the win that I thought we deserved.

"It was a great save from Roy. He's done his job and that's why he's here. We've got the best goalie in League One.

"It was a difficult win. We all knew it would be, with a team being managed by Peter Taylor.

"You head and kick every ball with the lads. I'm really proud to be their manager.

"We are on a great run and it's so important to do so. It will end, so if and when that happens we need to start another.

"We are a team that knows it's roles and we are organised and confident and it's great for me."
