Magpies Supporting New Healthy Eating Scheme

12 January 2015

Defender Haydn Hollis helped launch the new government scheme...

We have all heard of Jamie Oliver’s School meals, but not many people know that it all started at a primary school down the road from Meadow Lane at St Peters East Bridgford Primary back in 2000.

This improved standards nationally and hence the school was the focus on much media attention.

A new set of standards for all food served in schools was launched by the Department for Education at the start of the year and Hollis visited the local school to promote a healthy lifestyle.

The new standards are designed to make it easier for school cooks to create imaginative, flexible and nutritious menus.

Hollis talked to pupils around the importance of a good diet, how the importance of a nutritional diet has helped his career so far and encouraged them to use the new guidelines put in place.

He told the Official Site: "Following the right diet is extremely important and that is why I am here to support this, it makes all the difference if you want to play well. I've kept a balanced diet and these new standards are really important.

"I'm sure the cooks at this school and around the country will be able to produce healthy foods to ensure the right message is sent out at an early age.”

Community Officer Matt Lawson added: “Working on this project with the school has been great for Notts to be involved in, as we communicate with young people in this fantastic way.

"We are giving them the same advice that we give to all our players from the Academy and the Ladies team. Youngsters need to Eat Better to Do Better and it will help to tackle diet-related ill-health."

The club also continue to promote a healthy living style in A Game Of Two Halves project. For more details click here.
