New centre-back Dean Leacock has a smile back on his face after passing a medical on Tuesday.
The former Derby County defender signed a two-year deal and hopes to get his career back on track after leaving Leyton Orient at the end of last season.
He told Magpie Player: "I spoke to the gaffer a few weeks ago, he had great things to say about the club.
"It's exciting times here and when I first spoke to him I really wanted to get my career back on track.
"It's a massive chance to rekindle my career and push on and fullfil the potential I have."
The 28-year-old, who can also play at right-back, also spoke about the security of a two-year deal at Meadow Lane.
He said: "Security is a massive factor in football, but for me it's just about playing again - not about the money or anything.
"I want to play at the highest level I can and hopefully I can learn a few tips off the gaffer with him being a centre half - I'm really looking forward to working with him.
"I saw Notts last year for Orient and they played with freedom, he wants everyone to have a smile and I need to get back to that.
"Football hasn't made me happy recently, I need it to.
"I love playing the game, but I need the smile back on my face to enjoy it."
