Scunthorpe u18s 1-2 Notts u18s

27 March 2017

Notts County under 18s fought back from a goal down to beat Scunthorpe United 2-1 thanks to a brace from Dominic Brown-Hill.

The midfielder struck twice in the second half to secure a first win in six games for the Magpies.

Scunthorpe forced Notts goalkeeper Curtis Hall into action early on as Joe Busby met Lewis McMichael's cross but his header was straight at the stopper before David Allasan did the same minutes later.

The pressure continued from the hosts with Lewis Butroid firing wide as Notts were put firmly on the back foot by the Iron.

The Iron were given a golden opportunity to take the lead on the stroke of half time from the penalty spot as George Hornshaw was brought down inside the area.

However, Leslie Sackey could only put the spot-kick over the crossbar as the sides went into the break at a stalemate.

Hall was the busier of the two goalkeepers at the start of the second period, tipping Harvey Ablett's header over the top but there was nothing he could do to prevent Sam Lilley from opening the scoring with a powerful header from McMichael's corner on 52 minutes.

The lead did not last for long, though, as Notts hauled themselves level on the hour through Brown-Hill, who fired in spectacularly from range

The midfielder doubled his tally for the day from a free-kick, finding the bottom corner from 20 yards to seal an impressive win for County, leaving Dan Leivers a happy man.

He said: "We are delighted with the victory, more so because we know how hard the lads work each week to put things in place for the game on a Saturday. It doesn't always happen and we have been on a bad run in terms of results, which has been tough for the lads.

"We know it can be difficult to get results after Christmas as we've moved players out on loan and the likes of Joe Searson-Smithard and Alex Howes are involved with the first team, which is fantastic.

"I have to give a lot of credit to the lads. I'm really pleased with the second year scholars Jordon Richards, Peter Dearle and obviously Dominic Brown-Hill with his two goals. They supported the younger players through a physical game and, to be fair to the whole group, there wasn't a chink in our armour at any point."

With players out on loan and with the senior squad, Leivers was impressed with the performances of the under 16 players who had been drafted in to his team.

"Oscar Ramirez started in midfield after impressing as a sub against York and Kole Lambert was introduced in the second half and showed some real flashes of brilliance, he's certainly an exciting talent. It was also good to get Jack Henchcliffe on the pitch as well and he had a good impact on the game.

"I could mention all the boys as they did terrifically well to work their way back into the game and then seal the win. They are delighted and we just want to continue our good work of producing good performances and players for the first team."
