Notts land Alessandra

26 May 2017

Notts County have signed striker Lewis Alessandra from Hartlepool United for an undisclosed fee.

The 28-year-old scored nine goals in 2016-17 despite Pools' relegation to the National League and becomes Notts' second signing of the summer following the arrival of Lincoln's Terry Hawkridge.

A graduate of Oldham Athletic's academy, Alessandra has amassed almost 350 career appearances since his debut in 2007.

The Manchester-born frontman scored 25 goals across two seasons for Plymouth Argyle, including 13 in the 2014-15 campaign as the Pilgrims made the League Two play-offs.

Alessandra, who has signed a two-year contract, said: "What happened at my former club last year was very disappointing. I was gutted but I knew I still wanted to play league football, so when the chance arose I grabbed it with both hands.

"I don't think I would have come here if I didn't think we had a shot at doing well next season."

Notts boss Kevin Nolan added: "First and foremost I would like to thank the chairman for getting this one over the line. There were a number of clubs interested in Lewis and it looked tricky at one stage, but I'm absolutely delighted that he chose to come and work with us.

"Mark Crossley knows him really well from his time at Oldham Athletic and says he is a great lad – exactly the type of character we're trying to bring into the squad.

"He played every game for Hartlepool last season and, having watched a lot of their games, he was their bright spark. Add in the fact that he supports Bolton and it's the perfect signing for me!

"He will improve us, no doubt, and I'm confident we can also improve him."

Chairman and owner Alan Hardy was also delighted with the deal, saying: "On behalf of everyone at Notts County I would like to welcome Lewis to the club and thank Hartlepool United for their cooperation over the transfer.

"We have struck a deal which I believe is fair for all parties and keeps us well within budget as we seek to build a squad capable of challenging at the top next season."
