Alex Rodman says his experiences as a student in Nottingham helped convince him to join the Magpies.

The midfielder earned a Business Studies degree from Trent university while playing part-time football for Tamworth.

And, having got a feel for the city and the local footballing landscape, Rodman was delighted when the opportunity to sign for Notts presented itself this summer.

He said: "When I was at university I saw the size of the club and what it meant to people in the city, so that was a factor. It's obviously a huge club with a great fanbase.

"I love playing here - the stadium's fantastic. The atmosphere we had at the Grimsby game was brilliant - that's what I love being a part of football for, for those atmospheres, playing in front of passionate fans and seeing what it means to people.

"The boys have been very welcoming - I think we've got a good squad here and a manager who I know, who's had success in the past. It's been a fantastic transition."

While Rodman is thoroughly enjoying his time at Meadow Lane so far, he recognises how important it is for the team to start winning at home.

He said: "We know it will turn around - we've got a very good squad which I firmly believe will achieve something this year.

"I think every away team that comes here raises their game - they see the pitch, they see the stadium and give it an extra 5, 10, 15%.

"But I don't think it's anything to worry about. It's still early. As long as you're in a strong position in January, which I really think we will be, you can kick on from there.

"I'm sure it will turn around and hopefully that will be on Saturday."

In celebration of Lifeline Day, Rodman and the rest of the squad will be wearing Lifeline t-shirts in the warm-up ahead of the clash with Leyton Orient. Click here for more information about the day.
