Another big test

27 October 2016

Notts County manager John Sheridan says Saturday's top-six clash with Luton Town will be another 'big test' for his team.

The Magpies will go above the fourth-placed Hatters with a victory but Sheridan knows it won't be easy.

He said: "Luton are one of the favourites. They’ll be strong and they’re going really well.

"It’s a big test for us, after Portsmouth. I looked at both fixtures when we were on a poor run but we ground out a result with a bunch of honest players who stick together. Luton will be a similar test for us."

Sheridan, who says Jon Stead is likely to be missing until the festive period, was heartened by his side's ability to beat Portsmouth despite not firing on all cylinders at Fratton Park.

He said: "We came away with the three points against the best team in the league without playing well, so there are pluses from that.

“The result put us in the top seven of a very tight division. No one expected us to win there.

“You don’t have to play great, but if you go out there on the front foot and show some desire you get a buzz around the supporters.

"I think sometimes we sit back but I’d like us to be in the opposition's faces.

“We need to take that into the Luton game and a result against another good, strong side can only benefit us."
