Magpies swoop for Hawkridge

18 May 2017

Notts County have completed their first summer signing with the capture of Terry Hawkridge from Lincoln City.

The winger has put pen-to-paper on a two-year contract at Meadow Lane, which will come into effect from 1 July.

Hawkridge was a key part of the Lincoln team that won the National League title last season, scoring both goals in the 2-1 win against Macclesfield which confirmed the Imps' return to the EFL.

The 27-year-old, who was born in Nottingham, had spells with local sides Carlton and Hucknall at the start of his career before a strong season with Gainsborough earned him a move to Scunthorpe United and a chance in the EFL.

After three seasons at Glanford Park, during which time he helped the Iron win promotion from League Two, he joined Lincoln on a permanent deal following a successful loan spell.

And, after an incredible season which saw him play in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup, Hawkridge has now chosen Meadow Lane as his next destination.

He said: “It was a tough decision to leave Lincoln but I feel I have unfinished business here having been released as a kid. It’s my home city – I’m originally from Top Valley – so I am buzzing to be here.

“I’m looking forward to getting started and learning a lot from the experienced players in the squad, as well as the manager.

“I didn’t know what was happening after the National League season finished but now I have signed here I can go away, enjoy a short break and come back ready for the first day of pre-season training.

“I’m a winger who can play on either side but I like to cut in from the left. I’ve got a bit of pace, I can cross the ball with either foot and I have some tricks up my sleeve.

“I know I can bring goals and hopefully create some special memories here.”

Manager Kevin Nolan added: “I’m absolutely delighted to have Terry on board.

“We’re looking for him to carry on his form from last season, when he showed tremendous confidence and ability.

“He’s an exciting player who will hopefully get the fans off their seats.”
