Keep on scoring

18 August 2016

Notts County forward Jon Stead just wants to keep on scoring - no matter how the goals go in.

The 33-year-old has netted twice in his last two matches - a sumptuous lob against Stevenage followed by a dazzling individual effort against Plymouth.

But the manner of his strikes doesn't bother Stead, so long as he keeps adding to his tally to help the team achieve results.

Responding to congratulations on his two excellent efforts, he said: "They still only count for one though!

"If they go in off my backside it doesn’t really bother me - it’s more about converting the chances we get.

"I’m happy to be scoring goals and getting 90 minutes - and hopefully there's more to come."

Ahead of Saturday's trip to Hartlepool, John Sheridan has spoken of a positive spirit within the camp.

And Stead, buoyed by the team's improved recent performances, echoes his manager's sentiments.

He said: "We’re three games in and we would have like to have picked up more points than we have, but I don’t feel there’s any negativity about how we’re going to do this season - there’s still the confidence there.

"We put in a better performance on Tuesday but didn’t get the result, and it was the same at Scunthorpe - a decent performance but we didn’t get what we deserved.

"Hartlepool are a good side so it will be another difficult game. We go into it needing points but it might be a little different to the performances we've been trying to create at home.

"We might have to be more resilient, stop the silly mistakes which are costing us and try and nick something to get the result we need."
