A good test

23 September 2016

Notts County manager John Sheridan believes Leyton Orient will present 'a good test' for his team on Saturday (3pm).

Only goal difference separates 10th-placed Orient and 12th-placed Notts going into this weekend's clash at Meadow Lane.

And, if Notts meet their manager's target of finishing at the top end of League Two this season, Sheridan expects Leyton Orient to not be far away from his side come May.

He said: "Everyone's come through training this morning nice and bright ahead of a tough game on Saturday against one of the favourites to go up.

"They're one of the teams who I think will be there or thereabouts at the end of the season so it'll be a good test for us. They're a really strong, experienced side with some good players.

"But I feel as though we're getting better - there are good signs in us but it's important we maintain that over a long period."

Notts won 3-2 at Cheltenham in their last outing and Sheridan hopes to give the club's home fans a performance and result to enjoy this weekend.

He said: "I'd like to win for the supporters' sake. I've said it many a time - your home form, if you want to get promotion, is vital. It gives you that feel-good factor and builds confidence in everyone involved with the club.

"We're all after the same thing. I didn't accept the performance (against Accrington) but I was really proud of how the players responded at Cheltenham.

"The players want to win as much as me and they're hoping to put things right on Saturday."

Sheridan says Alan Smith is 'doubtful' ahead of the match with a hip injury, but has no other injury concerns to report. Watch his full pre-match press conference on Magpie Player HD now.
