A pleasing addition

15 August 2016

Notts County manager John Sheridan declared himself 'very pleased' after securing the loan services of Motherwell defender Louis Laing.

The 23-year-old signed a six-month loan deal this morning to complete a return to the club following a short spell at Meadow Lane in 2014-15.

And Sheridan believes a number of factors make Laing a good signing for Notts.

The manager said: "I'm very pleased to get him. He did well the last time he was here and it's good that he knows the place. It only helps us because he will settle in quickly.

"I know a lot about him - I remember him from a few years ago at Sunderland.

"I've wanted a central defender who can be comfortable in a two or a three. I like competition for places - I don't want anyone feeling they're guaranteed a place in the side week in, week out. I want people pushing each other and Louis adds to what we've already got.

"He's a good addition but he's got to hit the ground running - we've got to get our first win under our belt."

Tomorrow night's match against Plymouth presents Notts with a chance to do just that - although Sheridan knows it won't be easy.

He said: "It's a tough game. They're a team who I didn't expect to lose their first three games. They're a strong outfit and they've got some decent players.

"They're on a poor run so we've got to try and take advantage of that. I'd like the players to give me a response - it's down to them now.

"Rob Milsom joined in training this morning which I'm very pleased about. There's only Curtis Thompson who's not match fit at the moment."

Sheridan's full pre-match press conference is available to watch now on Magpie Player HD.
