Stead fit for Exeter trip

26 September 2016

Notts County manager John Sheridan says Jon Stead will be fit to face Exeter City tomorrow night.

Shortly after scoring his seventh goal of the season in Saturday's 3-1 victory over Leyton Orient, Stead was substituted following treatment.

Sheridan today however confirmed that the forward will be available for the trip to Devon, although Thierry Audel (sickness bug) and Louis Laing (suspended) won't play.

The Notts manager admits Exeter are a tough team to judge following their inconsistent start to the campaign, but he's wary of their threat when they reach full throttle.

Sheridan said: "Exeter are a funny team. They’re very good on their day but they’ve had an indifferent start and one or two injuries.

"They went down to ten men early in the game at Stevenage and won 2-0. They showed a lot of character so I’m expecting a tough game, but we’re going there full of beans and trying to win the game.

"If we get the three points we’re after, it sets us up nicely for Saturday."

Sheridan paid tribute to Jackie Sewell, who sadly passed away recently, when addressing the media this afternoon.

He said: "It’s a sad day – he’s a legend. I’ve seen pictures of him around the ground and heard good things about him - what a nice gentleman he was and, obviously, that he was an excellent player.

"Our thoughts go out to his family – he’ll be remembered very fondly."
