I love clean sheets

25 March 2017

Kevin Nolan was delighted with the defensive solidity shown by his team in the 1-0 win at Wycombe.

Shola Ameobi's 27th-minute goal, his second for the club, proved to be the decisive moment in the match but the manager was full of praise for the way his side defended throughout.

"I was so pleased with what we put on show today," he said. "We were absolutely fantastic. We really nullified Wycombe's strengths and were worthy winners.

"I'm delighted with the way we went about the game and didn't let them build momentum. To come away to a place like this and get a win with a clean sheet with the attacking threats they have is fantastic.

"We knew they were going to have to throw everything at us but I think we dealt with it really well. I am delighted to a man with all of the players."

"I love clean sheets so for us to give ourselves a platform to go and win games was very pleasing."

Jon Stead registered the assist for Ameobi's goal and the manager thinks the partnership between the two experienced frontmen is starting to blossom as a result of the time they have spent together both on and off the field.

"It was fantastic play by Steady for the goal and that is what you get from him.

"He is developing a real chemistry and a bond with Shola. You notice off the field that they are sticking together and always talking to one another and you can see it is starting to pay off.

"They held the ball up fantastically in difficult, windy conditions which allowed us to get up the field and, when we got up there, we used the ball well but we can still get better."
