Have no fear

27 February 2017

Kevin Nolan wants his Notts County side to have no fear ahead of their visit to promotion-chasing Plymouth Argyle.

The Magpies make the 506-mile round trip to Devon unbeaten in their previous four matches and the manager believes that should give the players the confidence they need to go and get a result at Home Park.

"We can't fear anyone," he said. "We will respect Plymouth because they are a good side and it will be a tough game.

"They have a good squad down there and they do the right things more often than not, which is why they are where they are in the league table.

"But we're on a four-game unbeaten run so we are going with confidence. However, we know we have to match them if we want to get anything from the game.

"It's a challenge I'm looking forward to and I have good memories of Home Park from winning the league there with Newcastle, so hopefully we can come away again with a similar result and a smile on our faces."

The 34-year-old came into the job with his eyes wide open about the challenge ahead but admits the response from the players since his appointment has taken him by surprise.

"I always had total belief we would be safe but I did not think I would get the reaction from the lads as quickly as I have done.

"I've given them the tools and they have used them, which is brilliant to see.

"It goes to show they are good footballers and they have to keep working hard while we, as a staff, remind them how good they are and how good they can be without letting them get too above their station," he added.

The manager said his squad was suffering with some bumps and bruises following the 0-0 draw with Yeovil on Saturday but he would give the players every chance to make themselves available for the game at Home Park.
