Carl Dickinson: "I Wear My Heart On My Sleeve"

1 July 2016

New Notts County signing Carl Dickinson spoke to Magpie Player and gave Notts fans an insight into his attributes as a player...

Carl Dickinson joined Notts County this week after turning down a contract at Vale Park, and in his first interview outlined the qualities he feels will bring to the club.

As Port Vale's Captain last season, it is no surprise to see that the clearly confident Dickinson feels he can add strengths to the squad in the dressing room and on the pitch.

He said, "I'm a leader. I like to be loud in the dressing room and get the lads going."

"Of course, there's different kinds of leaders and I think you need a different mix throughout the team and the squad. I'll be coming in to give my all and help out in any way I can."

The 28 year old from Swadlincote will bring a maturity and an understanding of league football rivalled by few at this level. His maiden appearance for Notts will be his first in League Two, but he has previously played at a few levels in the English pyramid, including the Championship and the Premier League.

He joked, "I think I've done every league now!"

"I'm going to bring experience, and I'm going to get my head down and give everything I can".

Dickinson started his career at Stoke and was part of their side that were promoted to the Premier League in 2008, where they have remained ever since, and he is eager to show the fans that he has that ability to succeed.

"Hopefully I'm going to show people that I am a good defender", he said. "I don't mind dishing it out a little bit, and I'm hard working".

Known for his passion and commitment at previous clubs (see our 'Carl Dickinson: Five Things You May Not Know' article for a true 'Dicko' warrior story!), it's clear that Dickinson intends to bring that spirit and devotion with him to Meadow Lane.

He said, "I wear my heart on my sleeve and I give everything day in, day out".

"I'm hopefully going to come in and add a bit of quality to the team."
