Believe in ourselves

21 January 2017

Thierry Audel is hopeful Notts can have a change in fortunes under new manager Kevin Nolan.

The former Bolton, Newcastle and West Ham midfielder brought the Frenchman into the heart of the defence for the local derby against Mansfield Town and his selection was rewarded with County's fourth clean sheet of the season.

It provides a solid base for Nolan to work from but Audel knows there is still plenty of hard work to be done.

He said: "The manager arrived the day before the Mansfield game so it was tough for him to prepare for it. It is difficult to put your mindset on to a team that quickly.

"With the new owner and new manager we knew we had an opportunity for a fresh start and to show the fans that we are capable of good performances.

"It was great to get a point and a clean sheet last Saturday."

Despite drawing against the Stags, Notts slipped into the relegation zone courtesy of Cheltenham's 3-0 win over Accrington.

But the versatile defender is not letting County's league position occupy his thoughts.

The Frenchman said: "I cannot say we are worried because, when you see how we played against Mansfield, you realise we are good enough and should have done better in the ten games we lost.

"We have to start to believe in ourselves, show some fight and be a team. We did it last week and we have to continue that.

"We know we have not done as well as we should have this season but we are in the position we are in so it is up to us as players to show on the pitch that we are good enough to move up the table.

"There are 20 games left and plenty of points to take."
