Macclesfield Town 0-4 Notts County

Notts form against Bradford and the current interest in County's ambitions for the season led to a good turnout at Macclesfield from both home & away fans and Magpies fans had filled the away end.

An early foul from Notts gave Hoult an early start to the game with an easy stop on the ground. Seven minutes in and the first corner goes to Notts after Hughes shot comes off the Macclesfield defence. Back out for another corner and again Davies delivers into the box.

Davies in for another corner following the Magpies attack, the flag going up for Hughes as the ball came back in from the clearance. New signing Kasper Schmeichel seemed happy to oblige the packed away stand chants of "Kasper, give us a wave." The former Man City player was watching his new team with Chairman Peter Trembling and Sven-Goran-Eriksson.

Ravenhill put County ahead on 13 minutes with a strike from the middle of the box, following in on Hughes' blocked shot. The start Notts were looking for and Ravenhill's first goal for County.

17 minutes and Davies with another corner, Magpies keeping the pressure up on Macclesfield with a goal line scramble seeing the ball come off the line and go for a goal kick.

Macclesfield came close approaching the half hour mark with good play by Matthew Tipton, their corner ball back in though was taken by Hoult. Macclesfield were coming back into the game and reigning in the Notts attacks. The increased pressure on our defence saw Graeme Lee's groin injury flair up and Edwards replace him at the back.

Paul Bolland's ball through to Draper allowed another attack on goal but led to a counter from Rodgers flicking it over to Hughes who just put the ball over the bar with his head.

An elbow to the face of captain John Thompson saw him on the pitch side for some time, in Thompson's absence, Bishop clashed heads with Draper, both remaining down. Play resumed with half-time not far off, Thompson's nose was broken with no card shown.

Good pressure from Westcarr sees another County corner right on the half time whistle. Stephen Hunt connected with it beautifully to head it into the back of the net right in front of the Magpie's stand. Davies again putting in another great corner ball and another County player marks their first goal of the season.

Half Time.

Straight into the second half with a goal from Lee Hughes off Davies' free kick. Ben Davies again floating in a superb ball, definitely a good game for him.

Jamie Clapham joined the field at half time for Bishop, who seemed to be hit hard by the earlier collision.

Under ten minutes into the second half and Davies nearly adds one of his own from a set piece ten yards out.Good hands from Jon Brain touched it away for a corner.

Macclesfield substituted Ross Draper for Lee Bell in an attempt to halt the Magpies' onslaught with only a third of the second half played. Not long after Emile Sinclair joined the field for Ben Wright.

Matthew Tipton came close after some good movement in the box, but couldn't find an angle between Hoult and the post. Karl Hawley came on for Luke Rodgers who'd been active up front all game.

Just after the 70th minute, captain John Thompson's header from another county corner was just stopped by keeper Brain. With the Macclesfield's forwards struggling to keep the ball on their attacks, Hughes puts the ball over to Jamie Clapham on the counter attack. Westcarr then found Lee Hughes again in the box, but the header narrowly missed the mark. Another Macclesfield change, with Tipton off for Kyle Wilson.

In the press box the question was raised whether Kasper will be needed… as Macclesfield barely made it through to challenge Russell Hoult. However Ian McParland told the press post-match that "clean sheets mean promotion", so Notts adding another talented keeper is a good sign.

To top off the afternoon in glorious sunshine; Westcarr slotted in with superb calmness just before the final whistle. Seven days into the league have resulted in nine goals, two clean sheets, and a premier league signing for County. Ian "Charlie" McParland followed Kasper in accepting the away fans appreciation.
